Last but not least, is Don Blessing. At 93 years of age, if he wasn't the oldest Olympic gold medallists alive, he was certainly the most boisterous. Still razor sharp and full of spirit, he always found time to offer one-man pep rallies to the squad, and show his enthusiastic support at the races. His firsthand memories brought life to the photographs on the walls, and provided a precious link to the past that all rowers share. Ultimately, it was his undeniable character that would inspire a whole new class of California oarsmen to earn their very own page in infamy.
