Freshman Coach Craig Amerkhanian rowed in the stroke seat for Coach Gladstone back in the 1970's, and brought firsthand experience to the century old rivalry with the University of Washington. His reach extended far beyond teaching rowing fundamentals, his contagious enthusiasm for the sport left an indelible mark on every man who entered the program. Three members of his undefeated 1998 California Freshman Crew would go on to win four consecutive IRA National titles, and Luke Walton became the only rower in American rowing history to never lose a single race during his collegiate career. In 2001, Coach Amerkhanian left his alma mater to become Director of Rowing at Stanford. |
